 Taghrid Samak

Taghrid Samak, Conference Chair

After earning her bachelor in computer science at Alexandria University, Egypt, Dr. Samak came to the United States to pursue a doctorate in computer science at DePaul University in Chicago, where she worked as a teaching assistant, research assistant and then lecturer. Upon graduation, she joined Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and has been conducting research to enable scientific discovery via data analysis and machine learning. 

Londa Jensen, Head of Logistics

Londa works at the MIT Legatum Center for Development & Entrepreneurship.  She received her B.S. in Business Administration with a minor in Arabic and Middle East Studies from the University of Southern California. She recently completed her M.A. in Intercultural Relations from Lesley University. She has lived and worked abroad in Egypt and Iraq focusing on education and entrepreneurship.

 Mariam Mahmoud

Mariam Mahmoud, Marketing & Media Outreach

Mariam has extensive experience in the field of marketing and advertising.  She worked at Promoseven as a Media Strategy Manager and handled several global clients including Nestle, Coca-Cola and Arma Foods.
Mariam holds a Master’s degree in Management from Harvard University and a Statistics Certificate from Ain Shams University. She was appointed as a Statistics Teaching Assistant in the Faculty of Commerce, Ain Shams University after graduating with highest honors.  Mariam is a mother of two and is currently focused on charitable and voluntary activities that have a direct impact on Egypt. 

Dalia Fadel,Ambassador Relations

Dalia grew up around the world. Her childhood was between the UK, Egypt, Saudi, & the States. While her years in the States exceed those in all other countries combined, her identity was influenced by each. Dalia has a bachelor of science in MIS from the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Dalia worked as a programmer analyst for the Federal Reserve bank prior to relocating to Egypt in 2002 where she lived and worked as a native Egyptian for the first time in her life. It was that experience that fueled Dalia’s passion for anything and everything that can make a difference and promote development in Egypt. She especially became passionate about teaching and education reform. In 2006, Dalia moved to Los Angeles where she earned her teaching credential and where she currently works as a Senior Programmer Analyst at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dalia dreams of one day moving back to Egypt.

 Yasmin Abbas

Yasmin Abbas, Program & Speakers Coordinator

A Medical doctor focused on eliminating disparities in healthcare services. She’s graduated from the School of Medicine, Egypt, earned her Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) in medical field, from Johns Hopkins University, and now she’s a PhD candidate in Health Policy at Brandeis University, USA. She’s worked on a number of national-level healthcare reform initiatives with the Ministry of Health in Egypt, the latest was developing a universal health insurance system that will change the map of health services provision in Egypt in the next coming decade. She’s also worked at Save the Children as a project manager for a mother & child health project that aimed at applying successful interventions related to family health and standard of living.

Adham Abdel Mottalib, Head of Competition

Adham received his medical degree from Cairo University and currently works as a researcher at Joslin Diabetes Center as well as working with the HealthMap team at Boston Children's Hospital to monitor disease outbreaks in the MENA region. He moved to the US seeking a career in medicine a few months after the January 25 revolution. Taking part in the events that took place in Tahrir Square made him believe more than ever in the power of the Egyptian people and their ability to change.

 Karim Fikry

Karim Fikry, Conference Treasurer

Karim graduated from Cairo University Medical School (Kasr Al-Ainy). He finished his internship and started residency at the National Cancer Institute in Cairo. He then moved to Boston, where he joined Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Harvard Medical School as a research fellow for a year. He is currently a resident in Anesthesiology and Critical Care at MGH.
Karim was also a professional Karate competitor and represented Egypt in multiple championships. Besides being the champion of Egypt for 17 times, he won the Arab, African, and Middle-Eastern championships. He also won a bronze medal in the World Championships in 2002. After retiring, he briefly coached for the Junior National Karate Team before moving to the US.

Sarah Hassan, Conference Secretary

Sarah holds a Bachelors of Science in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech.  Currently, Sarah works at the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Alexandria, VA where she reviews and researches patent applications in digital communications and signal processing.  Prior to that, she interned at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD as a systems engineer and was responsible for mission planning, telemetry investigation, and commanding for the AURA satellite mission program.  Sarah joined the NEGMA team because she is interested in promoting and taking part in social entrepreneurship activities that have the potential of enhancing Egypt's social and economic landscape.

 Rokaya Hassaballa

Rokaya Hassaballa, Webmaster

Rokaya is a freelance web developer/designer and is currently doing her Masters in IT, concentrating in Digital Media and Instructional Design, at the Harvard University Extension School. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Fine Arts, Helwan University. While in Egypt, she worked as a web developer at Global Geobits - Osman Group. More importantly, Rokaya is busy as a bee being a mom of three.

Wael Mahran, Head of Public Relations

Wael mahran is a faculty of engineering – cairo university graduate , communications & electronics major .He is currently working as a G.M. of planning and business development in a partially owned governmental oil company .In 2011 , Wael had his masters degree with excellence from the Arab Academy for Science & Technology --- an MBA degree , marketing major .
Wael is a heading the sports section at Core Publications (issuing Campus , G & E7na magazines , & producing online TV Station "Gomhoreya TV" ).He is a freelance writer at Sports & Fitness , and Cilantro Central magazines .He is also chief editor in the Nile TV , together with working as a free lance reporter for the same station .
Wael has been playing taekwondo on the national & International level , and is now Shooting Club's Taekwondo technical manager .Throughout the past years , he represented his country as a player & coach in many international championships winning a lot of trophies and medals , top of which was coaching an Egyptian junior girl to win the Universities World Championship & take part in the London 2012 Olympic Games .He has headed the media & marketing committees in major sports events including 2 World Taekwondo championships
